Radium Fuel Surge Tank for External Pumps

Application: Universal – external electric or mechanical fuel pumps (fuel-injected engines)
Part Type: Fuel surge tank (FST) for external pumps
Part Number: 20-1195

A fuel surge tank prevents fuel starvation on vehicles with inadequate fuel tank baffling. The FST pump(s) feed the engine directly, while the fuel volume inside the surge tank acts as a buffer to keep the engine supplied. That volume is maintained by the main tank's pump and by fuel returning from the regulator, with excess fuel overflowing back to the main tank. It is a quick and easy way to upgrade a standard fuel system for big power upgrades such as forced induction.

This Radium Engineering version is designed for external electric or mechanical pumps. It holds 2.21L, has three 8AN ORB ports pre-fitted with 6AN male fittings for supply, overflow and return, and can be configured with single 10AN, dual 10AN, single 16AN or 16AN + 10AN pickups.

Key Features

  • Capacity: 2.21L (0.58 US gal)
  • Ports: Three 8AN ORB (3/4"-16) – supply from main tank, overflow to main tank, return from external FPR – pre-fitted with 6AN male fittings
  • Pickups: Ships with one 10AN pickup; second 10AN pickup and 16AN conversion parts included – single 16AN, single 10AN, dual 10AN or 16AN + 10AN
  • Filtration: Two 80 micron filter socks for the 10AN pickups
  • Dual Pump Ready: Second pickup suits a priming pump for faster start-up with a mechanical main pump
  • Mounting: Underside suits uneven surfaces such as a boot floor; stainless mounting hardware included

What's Included

  • Surge tank with 10AN pickup installed
  • Second 10AN pickup
  • Parts to convert to a 16AN pickup
  • Two 80 micron filter socks
  • 6AN male fittings pre-installed in the 8AN ORB ports
  • Stainless steel mounting hardware

Optional Parts

Important Notes

  • For fuel-injected engines only – not for carburettor applications; a fuel pressure regulator is required
  • External fuel pump(s) are not included
  • Size the lift (main tank) pump at about 40-50% of the surge pump flow – e.g. a 1100lph surge pump needs roughly a 440-550lph lift pump at 40psi
  • Do not mount the surge tank horizontally – the pickups can draw in air pockets
  • Additional mounting hardware may be required
  • Radium's assembly instructions also show a 20-0461 level switch and LED indicator – confirm with Coore whether these are supplied with your tank
  • Installation instructions are available in the Instructions tab
